Consider pursuing one of these certifications if you have no formal supply chain education or are seeking to brush up on industry knowledge.

APICS: Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)

Consisting of three modules and one exam, this certification encompasses overall supply chain functions from upstream to downstream. It is APICS/ASCM’s most popular certification.

Member Cost: $1,690

APICS: Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM)

Consisting of five modules and two exams, this certification focuses on the fundamentals of supply chain, followed by a heavier focus on manufacturing and inventory.

Pass Rate: 69%
Member Cost: $1,680

APICS: Certified in Logistics and Transportation Distribution (CLTD)

Consisting of nine modules and one exam, this certification focuses on global forward/reverse logistics and inventory management. It is APICS/ASCM’s most recent certification, so its recognization is not as commonplace.

Pass Rate: 64%

APICS: Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM)

Designed for procurement professionals, this certification focuses on strategic sourcing, vendor management, contract negotiations, corporate social responsibility, and pretty much all other areas of procurement. This is one is still relatively new, so no thoughts on it yet.

CIPS: Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply

From certifications to diplomas, the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) is highly-regarded in the UK and EU. The professional body offers advanced certifications and diplomas for procurement professionals.

Six Sigma Belts

The International Association for Six Sigma Certification (IASSC) provides several belt-level certifications on the concepts behind six sigma (i.e. process improvement, lean). I can’t speak to the rigor or value of the program, but I have met some supply chain professionals with this certification.

U.S. CPB: Customs Brokers License (CBL)

Customs Broker License (CBL) certified by the United States Customs and Border Protection (U.S. CBP) agency are instrumental to American import and export supply chain. The exams are held one per year during September, so don't miss this window if pursuing!
